Mosundori or the Natural Remedy to all your stomach related ailments

Scientific name—Houttuynia cordata

Mosundori or Fish Mint or Heartleaf, may not be a familiar name to many. Urbanization and city culture have made us oblivious of our rich traditional knowledge revolving around plants and herbs with medicinal properties, and which kept our forefathers in their robust health and mind. One particular herb that was a sine qua non in the kitchen of our ancestors was Mosundori or Heartleaf. This herb was the elixir to all their stomach related ailments and they used all parts of this herb for consumption purpose.  

HOW TO IDENTIFY

For those who do not know this herb, here are some few guidelines to distinguish this herb from the other greens growing in profusion in our backyards.

The first distinctive trait of this herb is that the leaves look like the shape of a heart. The dominating characteristic is the strong smell that emanates if you tear or rub a leaf. The smell is very raw and almost similar to that of a fish and hence it is called Fish Mint.

This is a flowering herb, and summer is the peak time for this herb to flower.

WHERE TO GET IT

This herb is sold in the local markets, freshly picked and wrapped. It is possible to grow this herb in pots as well. It grows luxuriously in damp areas of the garden where sunlight does not reach.

MEDICINAL BENEFITS

Many of us might be repelled by the smell of the herb and would think twice before eating or cooking. But rest assured, once this herb is cooked, the smell completely goes away. This herb can be cooked in many styles—like steamed, adding to lentils, making chutneys, with fish curry, etc.

This herb is used to cure stomach issues, insect bites, fevers, cuts and wounds, burns, and many other ailments.  

Fish Mint mashed

Ingredients:

Fish Mint—1 bunch

Garlic—5 cloves

Salt—to taste

Turmeric leaf—3 (for wrapping)

Turmeric mid-rib thread or any other thread—to tie

Method:

Pick the herb from your kitchen garden. Or you can get it from your local market.

Clean and wash the herb.

Collect the turmeric leaves.

Wash the turmeric leaves also.

Now, place the turmeric leaves on top of each other, add the herbs and garlic to the top leaf and sprinkle the salt.

Wrap and tie it with the turmeric leaf thread or any other thread.

Place an iron tawa on the stove. Put the wrapped package on the tawa.

Cover the packet properly with a lid so that the heat does not escape. Keep the flame on low.

After two minutes, remove the lid and flip the packet. Cover it with the lid again. Wait for two minutes and then turn off the stove.

Once the packet is cool, take out the contents, and mash. Serve with rice as a side dish.

গোত্ৰঃ Saururaceae

অামাৰ বাৰীৰ কোণত বা সকলোতে সহজতে গজা এইবিধ সেইজীয়া ঔষধি বনশাক । ৰ’দ নপৰা জেকা মাটিত সহজতে হয় । পাতবোৰ হৃৎপিণ্ড (  ♥)        আকৃতিৰ । কেঁচাকৈ পাত মোহাৰিলে এটা কেঁচা মাছৰ দৰে  দুৰ্গন্ধ ওলায়।পাতৰ ওপৰৰ ফালে সেউজীয়া মিহি,তলৰ পিঠি অলপ বগা আৰু নোমাল। ফুল ৰং পাতল হালধীয়া সেউজীয়া । গৰম দিনত বেছিকৈ ফুলে।  মছন্দৰী ৰান্ধিলে গোন্ধ নেথাকে ।ভাপত দি,চাট্ নি বনাই,দাইলত দি, মাছৰ টেঙা ,পাতত দি যিকোনো উপায়ে খাব পাৰি । আনকি কোমল শিপাৰো চাট্ নিখাব পাৰি । জাপান আৰু কুৰিয়াত পাত শুকুৱাই চাহ পাতৰ দ’ৰে ব্যৱহাৰ কৰি চাহৰ দ’ৰে খায় ।পৰম্পৰাগত চাইনীজ ঔষধি সম্পন্ন এইবিধ বনশাক নিয়মিত খালে পেটৰ বিভিন্ন ৰোগ ভাল হয়।পেট কামোৰণী,গ্ৰহণী ৰোগৰ মহৌষধ।পাকস্হলী নানা ৰোগৰ সুপথ্য।কটা ঘাঁ,জুয়ে পোৰা,জ্বৰ আদি ৰোগৰ বাবেও বৰ উপকাৰী ।

​মছন্দৰী- এমুঠি

নহৰু -৫ কোঁহ

নিমখ-স্বাদনুসৰি

হালধি পাত-৩খিলা বান্ধিবৰ বাবে

হালধি ঠাৰিৰ দুডাল ৰচি

প্ৰস্তত প্ৰণালীঃ আগ চিঙি ,ধুই,বাচি ল’ব। হালধি পাত  ধুই ল’ব । এতিয়া তলত দুখিলা হালধি পাতৰ ওপৰতআনখন দি তাতে ধুই লোৱা মছন্দৰীখিনি , নিমখ আৰু নহৰু কোঁহ দি ৰুচিৰে বান্ধি লোহাৰ তাৱাত  কম জুইত ঢাকি পাতি দিয়ক ।প্ৰায় দুই মিনিট পিছত লুটিয়াই দিয়ক ।একে সময় সেই ফালে থৈ নমাই চামুচত দিয়া খিনি এনেদৰে ঔষধি হিচাপে খাওঁক ।পেট কামোৰণী,পেটচলা  ,তেজ গ্ৰহণী ৰোগৰ,পাকস্হলীৰ নানা ৰোগৰ মহৌষধ এই পিটিকা ।
